Pour être peintre en bâtiment, il faut bien sûr avoir une bonne dextérité manuelle, être à l’aise avec les hauteurs, mais il faut aussi une grande minutie et un certain sens artistique. Le Diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP) en Peinture du bâtiment ouvre la porte à de multiples possibilités d’emploi. «Quand on forme les élèves, on doit les rendre prêts à aller dans toutes sortes de milieux. On parle beaucoup de la construction, mais il y en a qui travaillent en institution, dans les hôpitaux, les écoles, et d’autres en milieu industriel», souligne Marc Trottier, enseignant au Centre Construc-Plus.

Les aspirants peintres apprennent à préparer et appliquer la finition pour la protection et la décoration de différentes surfaces, comme le bois, le plâtre, le métal, le béton et les matériaux synthétiques (vinyle, plastique, verre, céramique, etc.). Parmi les notions abordées: la théorie des couleurs, la composition des peintures, les produits utilisés, la lecture des plans et devis, l’estimation des travaux, etc.

«Quand on arrive sur un chantier, les gens n’ont pas le temps de nous prendre par la main, témoigne Julie Renaud, diplômée en Peinture du bâtiment. Avec le cours, j’ai une base sur tous les produits et les techniques qu’on utilise. C’est un gros plus.»

Celle-ci a longtemps travaillé dans l’Ouest canadien à titre d’enseignante au primaire. De retour au Québec, elle a décidé d’entreprendre un nouveau départ à titre de peintre, un métier qui rejoint plusieurs de ses centres d’intérêt.

«J’aime travailler physiquement et il y a une bonne camaraderie au sein de l’équipe. Il y a aussi un petit côté artistique. J’aime pouvoir voir le résultat concret de ce que je fais et me dire que je suis satisfaite de mon travail», soutient-elle.

C’est également un aspect qu’apprécie Annabelle Picard, membre de la présente cohorte en Peinture du bâtiment. «Mon frère a fait le DEP avant moi et il m’a montré ses réalisations. C’est ce qui m’a incitée à m’inscrire», confie-t-elle. Elle a de bons mots pour la qualité de l’enseignement offert au Centre Construc-Plus. Alliant habilement la théorie à la pratique, le programme permet aux élèves d’acquérir une autonomie et une grande polyvalence, des qualités reconnues par les employeurs.

Le DEP en Peinture du bâtiment s’échelonne sur 900 heures et est offert en formule bilingue. Les élèves francophones et anglophones sont dans le même groupe. Ainsi, la matière est présentée dans les deux langues afin de favoriser la compréhension de tous. Il y a deux cohortes par année. Commercial / Residential painting: a DVS offering many possibilities

To become a commercial or residential painter, you need good manual dexterity, must not be afraid of heights, and you are meticulous and precise with a touch of creativity. Are you interested in this trade? With modern installations and highly qualified and experienced teachers, the Construc-Plus Center, in Saint-Eustache, offers a high quality program consistent with the labor market realities.

The Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Commercial / Residential painting opens the door too many career possibilities. «When we train students, we must make sure that they are ready to work in many different workplaces. We talk a lot about construction, but many also work in institutions, hospitals, schools, and others in industrial buildings», says Marc Trottier, teacher at the Construc-Plus Center.

Students will learn to prepare and apply materials to protect and decorate surfaces such as wood, limestone, metal, cement, and synthetic (vinyl, plastic, glass, ceramic, etc.). Among the topics covered in this program: color theory, composition of paint, products used, read plans and specifications, and prepare estimates, etc.

«When you’re out in the field, people don’t have time to take you by the hand, says Julie Renaud, graduate in Commercial / Residential painting. With this program, I learned on every product and techniques used. It is an asset.» She used to be a teacher in primary schools in Western Canada. When she moved back in Quebec, she decided she would make a new start and become Commercial / Residential painter, a trade that reaches her areas of interest.

«I appreciate physical work and the team members are very friendly. There is also a creative side to the work. I love to see the results and be satisfied with my work», she says.

It is also a very interesting point for Annabelle Picard, one of the students in the Commercial / Residential painting program. «My brother did the program before me and showed me his work. That’s what inspired me to enroll», she explained.

She has only good things to say about the quality of the teaching at the Construc-Plus Center. Wisely blending theory and practice, the program gives the students the opportunity to become self-sufficient and multi-skilled, qualities that employers are looking for.

The DVS in Commercial / Residential painting is a 900 hour program, and is offered in both in French and English. The bilingual students are in the same group. That way, the program is given in both languages to help a better comprehension to everyone. There are two groups yearly.
